Vicky Cristina Barcelona

I saw Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona when it first came out. I loved the cinematography, the beautiful Spanish architecture, all Maria Elena’s (Penelope Cruz’ character) outfits. And much to my dismay, Scarlett Johansson’s character Cristina strongly resonated with me. Even or rather especially, her niggling bad habits.

The chronic dissatisfaction.

The not knowing what she wants, just knowing what she doesn’t.

And lastly and most importantly this thing she says:-
“No. I just have to come face to face with the fact that I am not gifted, you know? I can appreciate art and I love music, but… It’s sad, really, because I feel like I have a lot to express and I am not gifted.”

The point of all this is to mention that I have an idea for a new venture. I might not be artistically gifted, but I am surrounded by artists and I do possess a major desire to see them succeed. There are a few things that inspired this new project, one that I may even work full time on one day and I’ll be starting on it soon.

  1. For what it’s worth, I think you are immensely gifted. Immensely.

  2. I loved that movie, I think I might watch it again soon thanks to this post.

  3. I can’t believe you just said that you’re not “artistically gifted” – am horrified that you would even THINK of thinking that!!

    Big Love :-) GSxxxx

  4. I find the not gifted comment hard to believe – can’t wait to see what you’re cooking up next :)

When are you coming to Sydney :) I am sure you will enjoy her exhibition. Don’t miss out on the light room

  8. And I was inspired by the exact same quote :D
It was about time i restructured my life

  9. Thanks everybody, you’re all too kind. It’s true though, I’m creative I guess, but I don’t really have “art skills”. But my new project will marry my love for art with what I’m somewhat good at. Excellent!

Ashita: I was in Sydney from 30th April to 2nd May. Loved the exhibition, it was crazy.

  10. ı was searching for cristina’s quote on the internet about not being gifted then ı saw your page and ı realized that there are people on the earth that has same feelings like me and it kind a relaxed me cause ı was sort of feeling uncomfortable because of the feeling that not beıng gifted and ı wanted to remind you that when cristina give up for searching her talent she was lucky because there were people with her who showed her the talent that she already has and you have people around you that says you are gifted you are lucky and you should realize that you are gifted and ı also wrote the same things in my blog but it is in turkish sorry about that and also ı liked your other works too you are very succesful

  11. That’s it, the nagging dissatisfaction and the lack of creative skill to express or fulfill that void. I keep going through life thinking that one day I’d be able to pry open the doors and windows in my head and let the light in and then float up forever. Maybe there is a better way to fill up time than scratching at the walls to find the way, but being only aware of what one doesn’t want isn’t that helpful.

I loved the film and in parts identified with Penelope Cruz’ s character (the madness sans artistic capability) and Scarlett Johansson.

Sheena I haven’t read all your blogs but love what I see here and your life in pixie land:)We are connected through music mail, faceless, non physical connection. I enjoy your space and not feeling ashamed for snooping, don’t want to feel guilty for the surge in happiness.

P.s. I love the Spanish, it sounds so sexy.
