Sari Madam

I love saris. I wish I could wear them everyday like my grandmother did. I went to exactly one show at (Lakme India) Fashion Week, the Shantanu and Nikhil show where I saw and lusted over this one. How perfect it is, and how chic and nicely draped.

In other updates, I discovered the album Sinema from this Delhi band Peter Cat Recording Co. And Motherland, one of the first indie magazines in India by ad house Wieden+Kennedy has great cover art and insight into Indian subcultures.

If you can’t tell, my Indophilia is currently off the charts.

Mega International Hipster Points

My favourite person in the world Teva is on the cover of Pedal Speed this month. A Japanese magazine dedicated to bicycles and riding, particularly fixed gear and BMX bikes or whatever’s taken everyone’s fancy at the time.

They also apparently go around the world to different bike shops and different cities and feature their cycling scenes. New Zealand’s turn, an article inside the magazine features Teva and T-Whites bikes, the bike shop he works at. Launched just in time before he travels to Tokyo, we joked that he should casually read the magazine wherever he goes.

Peep the feature. Cute boy, cute shop.

Etsy girl

For their recently released Vintage Issue, I got to be Dujour Magazine’s Etsy writer. My job was to find all that is covetable on Etsy, source photos and write about the lovely handmade goods and the designers behind them. I wrote a feature on Norwegian Wood and shared two spreads with another writer. Here are a peek at my pages below the cover.

Wooden Toy Hand Made Edtn

I hurried to Gorker Gallery in Fitzroy today because I thought it was the last day of the Wooden Toy ‘Hand Made Edtn.’ exhibition but good news for everybody, they’ve decided to extend it for another week. The exhibition marks the launch of the 6th edition of Wooden Toy Quarterly and I loved it and loved what they’ve done with the contemporary space for it. I’m only sharing a single picture from the collection, Dave Collinson’s piece, one of my favourites because I’d like people in Melbourne to go see the exhibition. It made my day. You can also purchase the original artworks on display from the wonderful Wooden Toy Shop, buy copies of the magazine for $28 or buy prints at $80.

Art du jour

The latest issue of Dujour magazine – the Art Issue has some gorgeous editorials, including this beautifully styled and photographed tribute to Frida Kahlo. I covet all of it, the wallpapers, every last scrap of fabric and most definitely, that ickle sombrero.
