How to be Alone

I’d give my current EQ a two out of ten.

Recite me

This is one of my favourite photographs I’ve ever taken and this is one of my favourite poems, which I rediscovered the other day while surfing this lovely blog. I’ve recited it aloud probably fifteen times since. E. E. Cummings is magical.

I’m always Random

The last five times I’ve flown, I’ve been randomly spot checked. This last flight from Sydney, it made me think of this video of Suheir Hammad’s Mike Check. I despised poetry until I discovered Def Poetry Jam a few years ago, and I became a convert of the written and spoken word.

Be Kind to your Knees

I needed this today so if you haven’t seen it or seen it in a while, you must. Everybody’s free to wear sunscreen. This is the original Baz Luhrmann MTV version but this one is cute too.

Dinosauring

A poem* by my sister from another mister Pat Warden.

forty five degrees
the sun’s playing a joke
blonde ringlets
i hand her a balloon
she giggles
pokes my green hand
snap!
he clicks a picture
the others come
they all want one
look mum
look at the dinosaur
i sweat under it all
beads the size of grapes
drip drip drip
don’t faint
only four more hours
swish of a bag
jab in the gut
thud!
that was me, wasn’t it?
on the floor
and she’s walked away
without so much as a sorry
i get up
do a little dance
no one sees the sweat
or the tears
they look exactly the same.

*Last Saturday, when heat waves were all the rage, this awful lady punched me in my dinosaur suit so she could go past. This inspired the above.

Me. Stickin’ it to the man.

Why Ilovelenko

The Lenko Boutique in Melbourne Central is such a treasure trove. They have some of the wittiest, most playful prints and and although all I’ve been able to afford there so far are the uber cool bendy pencils and ice cream tub lipbalms, they have hands-down the best packaging. No gross plastic bags here. The stuff we bought was neatly packed into these foil takeaway containers. I half expected to open them to find succulent lamb meatballs or tandoori chicken like I would in India.

They also sell the best greeting cards. I met the poet at the Spigeltent market and fell in immense like with her work. This one is my favourite. See the rest here and buy some.
